P.K. my thoughts

P.K is an alien’s refurbishment of Oh My God peekay!
An effort to curb the enthusiasm of the followers of the messengers of God. It portrays the creativity of the messengers of god in creating the creator himself, capitalizing on the fear for the formless.  The Concept of God created by the messengers is shown to be an apotheosis of Bogus.
An Alien questions Hindu faith, along with that of other religions. Sadly only the idolatry worship of Hindus and their identification of Creative Spiritual leaders is majorly condemned to ridicule, only a passing reference is given to other religions, for fear of a major backlash from those who respect their religion more. Aamir tries to be an alien, Anushka tries to stay interested in what he has to say, Hirani’s magic this time out doesn’t leave me spellbound, but left me thinking of the misnomer in the Aphorism of god perceived through the eyes of human apostles.
Definitely worth a watch as P.K comes in a package which entertains, makes you think for a change, makes you change your thinking, re-defines faith by giving you one liners of intellect every now and then.  I felt something is inexplicably missing, please fill in the blanks, dont know what.  May be he tries to tell, what you follow is tradition, but what you believe in is the concept and what one has faith in is the formless, for the formless is God, who never deceives, who answers even missed calls made by posers like emissaries and  soothsayers, for commoners.

Kaaviya thalaivan

A love triangle of the old with a benefactor male and an effort that is bold. Plotted with pure hearted jealousy, With music that sizzles and plot that fizzles out to unite lovers for a tragic closure. A noble effort of novelty, with acting that could've been better and tragedy that could've been bitter. Vasantha balan tried a Shakespeare but could only afford Raghuvaran( prithviraj) to play a pivotal role. Though its Siddharth who's afforded a chance to pull a rabbit out of the hat, the expression of prithvi raj is what enthuses you from the crowd while witnessing the act. Captivating visuals help you adore the effort, and the background music aids your comfort. A stare of innocence into the heart of evil helps plant the seeds of rehabilitation for one's misdeeds is what we are made to believe. Overall it's more of a tragedy that leaves you with crocodile tears in the end, but worth your time for its novel picturisation, prithviraj's acting, background score that's just enough for your rupee outlay.

Nightcrawler

A night rider turns night crawler, and the gory night turns the rider into a reporter.
A story of a cold blooded reporter's life journey from a petty thief who theives his way from survival to reporting of crimes. On his way to top, he mugs a police officer, premeditates and films his own assistant being shot, offers his role as a boyfriend to his employer, acquires all that he sees that he wants, sends a fellow reporter to coma by making the guy's Van break free. This is a movie that'll amuse you as it offers scant regard for morality that forms part of humanity, depicted with brutal reality. A relentless reporter who shall stop at nothing, propels himself to fame. Nightcrawler crawls beneath your conscience to depict the normality of reality in media infotainment being reported. By far the pick of the lot in the last few months. Watch it for Jake Gylenhall and his unnerving acting.

Interstellar - take 1

"Of all the things you would've imagined of Nolan, this is nothing like anything you would have seen before" - borrowed words of Over hype for want of words of my own I couldn't type.

This isn't a qualified opinion with research on the accuracy of scientific events that occur in the movie. It's just a light hearted take on a movie of abundant ambition that's bordering on the black hole and finally gets sucked into it. Interstellar is just freedom of Imagination running wild. Stellar performances and visuals make us believe in Interstellar that we can rage, rage against the darkness of ignorance in science. We can believe that we can travel back in time and set a morse code without remorse, to correct the future . Even when in space where there's No LAN, you believe coz of Nolan that you can Skype your messages without network. Matthew is tailor made for the part he plays. Matt Damon plays a negative role to perfection. Inter-stellar is indeed worth a watch as it's like an Apple Iphone launch, it's nothing like anything you've seen before, with visuals which can capture the imagination of what could've been from Astro chapters of yesteryears. Gravity plays hero to save dusty earth. Thoroughly enjoyable, even when your knowledge of what's beyond the universe is limited to the nomenclature of planets. Watch it for difference!!

Khoobsurat

Bahut Khoob surat;
When Cinderella comes around princesses don't stand a chance, as this is a fairy tale for kids.

What happens when a Firangi enters unchartered territory and into a lions den? The lion turns a pet in the hands of an angel:)

Dashing looks of the prince are backed by nuanced and subtle acting required to pull off the role of a  prince. Mili (Sonam's)Milgayi tho Chakravarthy mujko bhi banadegi. Sonam's not so good acting, gets better. Her characterisation reinvigorates the kid in you and makes you wanna princess from the crib.  It's a bit too cute for maturity.

Overall watch it If you've been brought up watching Disney's fairy tales, I have been and I liked it.  Btw fairy tales were only fair and purely tales:) Else you wouldn't find much new, except the avatar and energy as it is the very usual and expected concept of love rendered without surprises.

Anjaan - Without Jaan

RAJU Bhai as portrayed by Suriya is a silly boy, who kidnaps people for fun and releases them alarmingly to the audience. Director has this amazing capability of not letting suriya act. The movie drags the life out of you, you require to muster all the strength to even walk the hell out of the movie hall. Vidyut Jamval, when he tries to act, it's without Vidyut and you feel like Jamming his head into the Wall, I guess that explains Vidyut Jamwall. Samantha just smiles around here and there and travels to places with Raju Bhai, like a headless "Chick"hen trying to be pretty and dumb at the same time. Lingusamy not for me, "thanks for this death knell". Even Manoj Bajpai succumbs to the numbness of this dim wit storyline. The producer for me is the real Anjaan( fearless) and will become the the Hindi "Anjaan" (stranger), if UTV production continues to produce movies like this one in South. Remember the Delly Belly remake. If the genre were to be humour, I would've still asked the director to humour me. Anjaan is just "un" Jaan for me, wait for it to be Anjaan within a weak week. If you feel irate  because of the abundant use of the word Anjaan, then man up and watch it.

City Lights - Re-View

A Devoted wife, married to a hard working soulmate, dances among salivating  foxes, to fend for innocence . While the soulmate of innocent ignorance  plays a humble and meek sheep amongst wolves, Finally conquered by animal instinct of criminality, ends up saving the family. City of lights lit at the end of innocence.
A mockery of a board that "criminals will be prosecuted" in the background, and the innocent with a hint of criminality will be persecuted, by the city that never sleeps.
Strong performances with music that melts yours senses - "sone do, Kwab bhone do, jaagenge phir thamenge koi waja jeene ki,sone do, Kwab bhone do " poetry that lingers, and the thought of sacrifice that makes you surrender to the thought that a mould could help your family to unlock the materiality of happiness . City lights definitely with a story line that makes you want to believe!

Cuckoo -the movie - the review

Cuckooed by the cuckoo, the story of two differently abled lovers who love with blindness only in their eyes. I've heard of love being blind, today the director made me believe that if lovers be blind, that is the most sacred union of hearts. This love transcends all boundaries of the language of hearts, portrayed by the normality of vision and materiality mastered by most directors. This is a novel attempt at melting the hearts of viewers, who'd come out of the hall wanting to be loved blindly. Attakathi Dinesh turns blind this time around after playing a loafer in the past. The amount of refinement in his acting in only his second movie shows there are talented folks out there waiting to grab every chance with a scope for natural acting.

The newbie portrays lady love to perfection. When the cuckoos comes calling  in the finality, your heart starts pounding faster. It pounds faster in a prayer for the coming together of these two soul mates. If  the directors Cupid arrows were even a bit more sharper, they would've made you celebrate Valentines day on a daily basis for this union, as you are bowled over by this flawless creation of an artist. Watch it, live it and celebrate it, for this love is as unique as it can get in the modern era.

Queen

A Queen in deed and at heart;
A kid at heart, with a quintessential cultural background and a traditional upbringing, pleasured by thoroughly enjoyable modern experiences, faced by rejection at the hands of a fiancée of the yesteryear school of thought flirting with disaster! She enjoys one hell of a honeymoon without her fiancée, feeling out of place at times, yet putting up a show of happiness! If Japanese and Russians can induce emotions, Indians can atleast squeeze a drop of tear out of you!!! Rather than putting it as Alice in wonderland, it's more Like Kangana Ranaut sorry ran"out"to wonderland  and owned the big stage like a queen. Beautiful cinematography, different songs, perfect comic timing!  She's the queen of the house of cards of Bollywood that wouldn't wither away from your memory in time to come! Portrayal of beauty without obscenity is something difficult to be shown to the audiences these days. Her character in the movie portrays the culmination of innocence and happiness brought about by a structured breakdown of sorrow, by freedom of thought, unshackling herself from traditional monotony of bounded Hindu love. Watch it and you'll believe every word of it!

300, The rise of an em"pire" - Review

Three Hundred, hope this doesn’t go unread;
The rise of a nation;
Haunted by the blood of Leonidis and the 300 past,
This rise of an empire might be forgotten fast?
Yes, Indeed.
It lacks the sucker punch, yet remains thoroughly watchable owing to the screenplay and background score and the rationale that a person would never give up on the what could have been, as every second that passes by the movie runs amok, as Persians falter into the abyss, thanks to Athenian strategem.
The movie starts on a beautiful note – Quote “A mad experiment by Athenians againt the mighty Persians, all for an Athenian Idea called democracy, for a free greece”Unquote. Acting does not inspire, nor does anyone try. Eva Green as Artemisia flatters with her divine beauty, appreciated only by the greeks of the past, as her acting decieves and she falters into the waters of Greece, with the idea of freedom.
Xerxes feeds on the dead, grieves as his father falls, bathes likes a Greek God, walks and rides more than he talks. But his innate anger, the very reason for the desire to conquer, fails to inspire the vengeance that gave birth to the idea of conquering Greeks.
There used to be this feeling in 300, when Leonidis braves the persian messenger when he shouts his lungs out “This is Sparta”. That instantly sent shivers down the spine of the messenger, the audience would have clenched their fists to defend Sparta and avenge the audaciousness of Persian offering of tyranny. But As the 300 empire rises and progresses into the w hole , one feels whether this was the Sparta? – The same Sparta that portrayed the valour and believable courage of the 300, that braved the animosity of Xerxes, even when outnumbered by tyranny and deceived by one of their own, they fought on to attain the glorious death that provides the ammunition for the salvation of a warrior. The blasphemy of Leonidis’s death avenged too late by a queen that grieves a bit too late. The foreplay of Queen's vengeance isn’t consummated by the blood of Xerxes or his disciples. Themistocles as the main lead, leads, falls, rises, strategises and beds victory with ease, as Artemesia raves about his manhood and gifts death, as her Persian God looks away in  human loss.
300 Rise of an empire is as good as the Age of Mythology post Age of Empires for the Strategy Gamers - Geeky impulse, sorry. Simply Put, Ain’t as good as its precedent, No Pun intended.

Mr.Peabody and Sherman, a quickie

If the wings of imagination were to be fueled with the fire of creativity, history would’ve been far more interesting, like the one portrayed in the movie. Animated adoption, thought provoking screenplay, admixture of science and history, amazing Greeks and thought provoking geeks. The Sherlockish explanation for escapade is too mature for the young while an adult takes time to comprehend.  Though the climax dragged a bit, the WABAC machine travels back to the glorious past and brings forth the memories that remain unforgettable.  Hope its more of a Trojan Horse transmitted to the traditional way of teaching history oblique science that makes teachers take note. This movie has the ability to make the expressionless Monalisa smile to aid Da Vinci with the photoshop of future. Overall an interesting movie tempered with logic and creative magic that thrills. The smartest dog does succeed in grooming the intelligent kid, in a way that most humans would'nt.  Kudos to creativity and freedom of expression. Loved it. Watch it.

American Hustle- The review

It's the American hustle, with the acting muscle to wrestle a script that doesn't surprise.

Carnal attraction for revenge to avenge, adopted affection, self inflicted loyalty, long thought infidelity, fantabulous star cast with ability to hustle;

There used to days when J Law would be unisexually known as Jude Law, but now it's Jennifer Lawrence. To quote -

She was the Picasso of passive aggressive Karate. She was better than any con artist id ever met including myself. She has me like nobody had me. You might say she was my karma for how I took advantage of people - unquote.

After the Silver Linings Playbook this was more like the gold etched effort of J Law to naturalise eccentricity. Her short playtime performance could bag all the accolades.
It's an "Arab scam" on us though, using the sheik word. To sum it up, it's eccentricity for Academy J law, The bellyaching Christian Bale, improvising Bradley Cooper who's more than just an eye candy, unfathomable Amy Adams should have done enough taking this found wanting script beyond just an all too familiar Hustle through their acting.
"I'm gonna have some fun, maybe it'll be contagious !" - yes it was . Please go watch it!
Still ruminating while leaving the hall, quoting some of the dialogues I liked -
"Again? You compliment me again. What is this rubbing salt in the wound?
You're nothing to me until you're everything!"
Who would dare missing out on Bradley Cooper questioning Louie C.K. about Ice Fishing.
Watch it !

Lunchbox

A subtle and romantic Oldie(Irfan Khan), A beautiful and patient housewife who has found new love unshackling herself from monotony, the ever so enthusiastic wannabe workaholic Nawazi, the simple letters that touch and convey, the love that subtly sways your heart with all its practicality and the waited loss of logic when it comes to affairs of the heart. To add to all of this, The Midas touch of Irfan Khan, the ever so beautiful newbie Nimrat Kaur, refreshing cinematography, understandable philosophy and the rightly paced narrative, act as the perfect meal that any Cinegoer's wishful thinking lunchbox could have been packed with. Lunchbox is more of a punch box in an ever increasing new trend of art movies becoming hits, slowly picking pace in Indian Cinema. Art i felt, as a matter of heart. A must watch.

Lucia, My Thoughts

"With a lot of effort I had sewn together the heavenly stars of my dreams and presented the garland of love to you, only to be awoken from my dreams to see the garland vanish!" ( Modified from the subtitles:) ) Lucid dreams of every Kannidiga fulfilled. Lucia! to awaken all those kannada filmmakers from their slumber to applaud and dust themselves  up and reinvigorate Kannada Cinema ! The torch bearer in the cinema hall has lit up the faces of all Kannadigas with this one. Lucia the renaissance, Lucia every filmmaker's dream, Lucia the comman mans crowd funded  wonder :) Thoroughly loved it ! Anybody even remotely associated with word "Kannada" has to watch it.Lead kindly light Lucia! I have worn my heart on my sleeve while writing this one. Hope other Kannada Filmmakers follow the suit:).

Vanakkam Chennai

Costly necklace,5 star hotel, London mappillai, sollu Yeppo kalyanam? A girl from London and his heart's undone.Shiva's one liners and tailor made sarcasm and situational comedy, the ever improving Priya Anand, and well "the almost hero" in the second half -Santhanam, make this dramedy/rom-com fun and watchable, if one were to not think too much to smile. There's an increasing trend of sorts, when it comes to kollywood dramedies/rom-com currently made. Most of these movies make you forget yourself in happiness, definitely worth every penny for that alone. But when you think beyond the hall, you realise there's nothing different when it comes to love, but then you're happy. The happiness in irony wanes for some part of the movie owing to hard-worked seriousness with respect to love. Portions of Black and white dramedy takes you on a trip down the memory lane and gets you back giggling! The Music makes you levitate with happiness "in parts"! A dramedy from a newcomer that lets you leave the theatre hall with a smiley face.  I guess that's all that matters:)

Raja Rani

Raja Rani - One hell of a different movie. Makes me wanna say i am in the dreamland of movie goer's wretched spell for quite some time . Have watched a hat-trick of beautiful movies in the past few weeks. Loss of a loved one, forgetting that they were once loved to remember the love of their parents. Placing the happiness of others over that of themselves while reminiscing the past of sorrow, Finding soulmates in a "Wills made for each other" typecasting, solid acting crew, Nayan ability to deliver when tamil actress imports have failed . She seriously inspired palpitations while she had convulsions, bravo shot for an actress. Hands down will certainly win something with this performance. Arya's ability to be a an uncommon lover, Jai's simplicity and innocence, the little portion from "Santa"nam making you giggle intermittently, make it a very watchable movie atleast for the difference in the plot, if not for a dragging second half. Less masala, masha allah for quite some time for a tamil movie. Liked it, plz watch it. I am in the varutha padada valibar sangam for having watched the movies that i have watched:)

Vidiyum Munn

The enlightenment provided by conscience at the moment of amassing material richness! The gore of a heinous mind. Daring vision of a newcomer. The idea of a man who profits at the sins of infidelity. A pimp who's made to limp. A silly matter of culmination of truth and  innocence bringing out a climax that majority of those belonging to the golden olden days would've begged for. Dragging first half and you're  dragged in, the second half. BGM that thrills, cinematography of difference, movie making in parts of daring reference, in reverence. The normality of vengeance during the period of ability, beyond the days of inability. All of these make for a magical experience for discerning viewers gracing the cine hall for less of heroism and more of parallel cinema. Bravo Vidiyum mun, second halfikku pinnn!!!

Dhoom 3

Dhoom 3 to doomed three.
From Fight sequence to sudden flight sequence? No wonder it's starts with the great Indian Circus! It's actually the greatest Indian Cine circus of producer disabled actors, muted fights sequences, aggravated anger comedies and when lost in all of this people, do wheeling and you're left reeling about the stupidity and Kartrina's strip selection.
Aamir leaves you feeling sick to the stomach! Jokers fly Into water with bikes and come out in speed boats. Speed thrills,but this time as he experiments,it kills. One get the hair dryer treatment on seeing the bike back out of water. Aamir's like the duck out of water. Crossing bridges for fun forgetting what the audience would think:) The audience and the police know the loot at the same time, the most novel idea of all. No explanation whatsoever as to the rationale behind robbery. Nobody offers a family pack with Six packs I should have understand. Aamir's Sheldonishque reaction when he's shot says it all! Sometimes you expect a Beethovens Symphony and all you get are item numbers from Aamir and you've to make do with it :( A body double is flicked from prestige, as their prestige keeps flickering for three hours, as Aamirs all time low dims to darkness! To summarise Aamir tries to be a magician in a Yash Raj circus! I guess that says it all:)  With a happy burger and a Mountain Dew, the movie doesn't please even a few!  The free fall in the climax is as slow as the childish poetry at play in climax, surprisingly not at the box office:(
